How Botox Became Part of Her Neurology Practice

Botox entered Dr. Chapman’s practice nearly a decade ago at the recommendation of a colleague who suggested offering treatment for chronic migraine. As a migraine patient herself—and initially skeptical that Botox would make a meaningful difference—she did not expect it to become a defining part of her clinical work.

Instead, patient after patient returned to share how Botox had reduced the intensity and frequency of their migraines and improved their quality of life. Some sought her out specifically for injections, reporting that her technique made the experience less painful and far less anxiety-inducing, earning her the informal reputation of being the “Botox whisperer.”

Around the same time, she began treating post-stroke spasticity with Botox and witnessed functional gains that often exceeded expectations—including a patient who returned to physical therapy and regained the ability to walk after years of limited mobility. These experiences shaped her conviction that Botox, when delivered thoughtfully and with neurological expertise, can restore function, reduce suffering, and meaningfully impact daily life.

Training & Professional Background

Clinical Focus

At Bare Face RVA, Dr. Chapman’s practice centers on:

  • Chronic Migraine Botox

  • Neurological Botox for conditions such as spasticity and cervical dystonia

  • Cosmetic Botox with a natural, movement-preserving aesthetic

While she treats both medical and aesthetic indications, her clinical vision remains primarily medical, with the majority of patients seeking care for chronic migraine and neurological conditions.

A physician-scientist by training, Dr. Chapman has contributed to federally funded clinical trials through the NIH StrokeNet, conducted implementation research to advance acute stroke care and telestroke systems, and developed innovations that aim to reduce disparities in neurological outcomes.

Her academic contributions include:

  • numerous peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals

  • invited national and international presentations

  • competitive grant funding

  • a U.S. patent for a telemedicine platform for stroke assessment

She is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and a Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA) through the Stroke Council.

Approach to Care

Philosophy

Dr. Chapman is dual board-certified in general neurology and vascular neurology. She completed her neurology residency at Howard University Hospital, where she served as chief resident, followed by fellowship training in vascular neurology at the University of Virginia.

She currently serves as Stroke Section Chief for the Central Virginia VA Health Care System and holds a faculty appointment as an Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Virginia.

Across both medical and aesthetic indications, Dr. Chapman prioritizes:

  • precision in dosing and anatomical placement

  • patient comfort and communication

  • natural results and preserved facial movement

  • evidence-based protocols

  • continuity of care

Her patients describe her injections as gentle, low-anxiety, and surprisingly tolerable—even for those with needle‑related apprehension.

Dr. Chapman believes Botox can be simultaneously medical and confidence-building—that relieving neurological symptoms and supporting aesthetic goals need not exist in separate spaces. Her practice reflects a view that health, function, and self-image are deeply connected.
